The Word Hunt

posted Sep 15, 2010 2:59 PM by Anita Vanous
On Wednesdays we will do a word hunt. This is one of the most powerful strategies in the program. It helps students to see that spelling patterns help them to be better readers and writers. Over the next several days, we will do different kinds of word hunts. Today we looked at a poem. Students need to find words that sound right and look right. They were only looking for long u words with the u_e pattern. They could not count the word you, for example. It has the long u sound, but is not spelled with the u_e pattern. Your child brought home the poem that we worked on together in class today. Ask them to see it. I have attached a copy of the answer key so that you know what we talked about in class.
