The Blind Word Sort

On this second day of the Word Journey's lesson, students practice what is called a Blind Word Sort. Your child will need a partner to do the Blind Word Sort - a parent, an older sibling, or a babysitter. The student lays out this week's feature headers. This week that would be the _u_ and the u_e cards. The partner has the word sort cards. Draw one card from the stack. Say the word aloud. Ask your child to point to the feature that this word has. For example, if you draw the word sum from the stack, your child would point to the _u_ card. Then have them spell the word aloud for you. Continue in this way until you have gone through all of the word cards. Sometimes you may ask the student to write the word rather than spell it out loud. That is fine, be sure to correct any errors as they occur so that your child is not practicing the incorrect spelling.

Be sure that your child brings their word sort cards back to school each day. We had many missing cards today when we tried to do our sort at school today.

Thank you for helping to support your child's growth in spelling!
