In-Tents Learning

Wow what a fun first day of third grade! Who would think we could figure out so much about how we learn by ptiching a tent?
Here are some of the highlights.
        • Always read the directions first.
        • Sometimes even after you read the directions there are parts you don't get. It is ok to ask questions.
        • Make sure everyone in your group gets a chance to participate.
        • Make sure you do your part. Others are counting on you.
        • If you are trying to help someone learn something new, show and tell first, then let them do it.
        • Being silly isn't helpful.
        • Working together can make the work faster, easier and more fun!
We discovered we already have a lot of strategies that help us when we get stuck with our learning.
  • Go back and read the directions again.
  • Notice what other kids are doing to solve problems.
  • Study the parts that are in front of you. Think to yourself, "What makes sense? What could I try?"
  • Do the parts I already know how to do, that might help me figure out other parts of the problem.
  • Participate! Do something. It will never get done if you do nothing.
That's a lot of learning for the first day!
