Thank you to all of the Lincoln Family for their support! Our lemonade stand earned $385.00 for Hospice. We are excited to get to purchase items for the children's room at the Hospice Home. Many students have expressed that it makes them feel really good to know that they are making others smile during a difficult time.
The logo we chose for this project is a combination of the Hawaii Hospice logo and the goal of your children. They wanted to put a smile on the face of someone who is very sick. The big heart is certainly and appropriate symbol for this compassionate group of kids. I know they will go on and continue to do great things. I am very proud of them. I know as parents you must be proud, too.
I hope that all of you got to see the students featured on KWWL News Sunday morning. But just in case you missed it, here is a link to the video. I am not sure how long this link will stay live, so enjoy it and share it with extended family members while you can.

The students have been working hard, researching an ocean creature and writing a report to show what they have learned. During the week following spring break we will edit and publish our reports in hard cover book format.
The children have learned enough about the animal they are researching to begin their home project. They are to build a model of the animal they are researching and make it as realistic as possible. It should be the correct color, shape and size. Any thing larger than 6 feet can be scaled down. You can use any materials you would like. I can give students ideas if you are having trouble. However, I am always absolutely amazed at how creative families are with these projects.
Some families might like to begin thinking about how to build the model over spring break. Others might use the time to actually begin construction. The model is not due until April 5th. Please do not send them to school before April 4th.
Thanks for all you do! Mrs. Vanous |

Woo Hoo! Silly Bandz for a day! We have already sold 470 raffle tickets. Only 30 more to go and we can wear our silly bandz for one day. I know we will make our goal tomorrow. A student handed in 55 tickets today after the ladies had already counted todays tickets. So Wednesday, Feb. 23 is Silly Bandz day only in Mrs. Vanous' class. Now the students think they can get me to school in my PJs! I am getting kind of scared. Does anyone know where they sell "Big Girl Footie PJs"? I think I am going to need them. This class is selling like crazy. Thank you to parents for all of your support. We found out today that if the school sells a total of 18,000 tickets, Mrs. Beving will have a crazy hair day: painted hair, with silly string and who knows what else. Can you visualize that? She could maybe take some tips from these crazy hair dos. Who is the stylist? |

- On Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 2:00 students are invited to participate in an " all school UNI Panther Interlude Dance". It's going to be a great ending to our week with students. We encourage students to wear purple and gold. The Cable network will be showing the dance, and the creator of the dance from UNI will be here to help lead us! Don't know what the interlude dance is? Check it out at this link: Interlude Dance on You Tube

Thank you to all who volunteered to help out at the Wacky Winterfest. We really appreciate you effort and look forward to a fun day. Also a reminder that 3rd and 4th grade parents are asked to bring individually wrapped baked goods for the cafeteria. Rice crispy bars, brownies or bars cut to a 3x3 size are suggestions.
We set classroom goals for raffle ticket sales. I was very impressed with some of the ideas your children suggested as rewards. They asked for things like an all science day, bring your parents to school day to talk about their jobs, and bring an adult to read day. After we had about 25 ideas. The kids voted and the list of rewards they decided on are:
250 tickets sold = Hat Day 500 tickets sold = Silly Bands Day 750 tickets sold = P.J. Day 1000 tickets sold = Dress up like your favorite book character day
We look forward to an exciting couple of weeks to end the month of February! |

Wacky Winterfest is scheduled for Saturday, February 26th from 4pm - 7pm. I know the children LOVE this fun day. But the Winterfest is so much more than a fun day. It is our biggest fundraiser and has generated over $100,000 for Lincoln School. We have two beautiful playgrounds and wonderful technology for the classrooms along with many other things we could not have purchased without your help. Wacky Winterfest also goes a long way toward building the tremendous sense of community that makes Lincoln a special place to be.
Three parents have already graciously volunteered to help out and keep the Wacky Winterfest going. We are desperately in need of your help to keep this important event going. I have been asked to find at least three more volunteers. Third grade parents supervise the hat walk, the cake walk, and the book walk. If you can spare an hour, please complete the form below.
Thank you in advance for your help.

We are studying immigration and want t learn more about where our families came from and why. Today your child received two pages to fill in with information about your family history. There is a family tree and a family interview questionnaire. Please have the student fill in as much information as you know and return both sheets by Friday, November 19. Please return the pages even if it is not completely filled out by Friday. Please write "UK" for unknown in any space that is left blank because the information is unknown. Students will use the information to gather data about the diversity of our class which we will use in several activities between now and Winter Break. Thank you for all of your help! Mrs. Vanous |
